The Romanian biker Vlad Dascalu (Brujula Bike Racing Team) has been proclaimed XCO World Champion in the U23 category in the UCI MTB World Championship 2019 at Mont-Sainte-Anne (Canada), after offering a great display of strength and technique.

We witnessed a great performance by the Galfer Bike representatives at the Mountain Bike World Championship 2019, where they obtained a gold medal and a bronze medal (both in the cross-country specialty), besides 4 Top Ten positions.

The gold medal and the rainbow jersey were for the Romanian biker Vlad Dascalu (Brujula Bike Racing Team). Vlad Dascalu increased his distance from the pack and launched a powerful attack in the second lap, which left him alone at the head of the race. The distance from the rest kept on increasing as the race progressed, and Dascalu offered quite a mountain-biking exhibition, proving to be really safe in the descents and the strongest biker in the ascents. After hour and almost 20 minutes (1:19:50), Dascalu managed to realize the dream of a lifetime: to become World Champion. Besides, with this gold medal in the U23 World Championship, Vlad Dascalu has obtained the right to participate in the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

The bronze medal was for the Australian biker Rebecca McConnell (Primaflor-Mondraker), who led a large part of the race in the female Elite category. However, she was finally surpassed by two of her rivals in the last laps. After her forced stop last year, this year Rebecca is showing that she has returned with all her strength and is running a great season. In the same category, it is also worth mentioning the 6th place of the British biker Annie Last (KMC-Ekoi-Orbea).

In the male Elite category, great Top Ten for the French biker Victor Koretzky (KMC-Ekoi-Orbea), who obtained the 7th position after having fought against the best athletes in the world. His teammate Florian Vogel arrived in the 15th position.

On the other hand, the young biker Rocío del Alba (BH-Templo Cafés) achieved the 7th position in the female U23 race, which leads her towards her participation in Tokyo 2020.

In the downhill mode, the best performance of the Galfer Bike representatives was that of the Australian biker Tracey Hannah (Polygon UR), who arrived in the 4th position in the female Elite category.

The next and last international date of the UCI MTB this season will be held in Snowshoe (USA) next weekend (September 6-8th).
